Hi Everyone, I have some great news to share with you all. I was entered into my very first ever bird show by my birdsitter/bree- der. I was in the novice division for senegals. In two days I came away with a total of 6 ribbons. 4 first place ribbons, one 4th place and one 5th place ribbon. Could have won more but since my wings are clipped it held me back. When mom takes pics of me with my ribbons she is going to place them here on my page for all to see. She is so proud of me. Both my senegal parents were top show winning birds. Brother Maxi also won honorable mention for looking so good for his age of 15 3/4yrs.. ............. Met her at a bird fair. She took an instant liking to me and chose me as her new owner. I wasn't going to buy a bird but when she chose me, I just had to take her home. It was instant love!... ...HATCHDATE JAN 26, 2003..

  Hi Sweetpepper
Oh yea we go through alot of batteries around here too. Mom does buy the ones you can recharge for some of her toys so that helps but she doesnt use them in my toys.
Today was grocery shopping day this morning for mom. Usually she just goes down the road and across the river into the town of Apollo (we actually live out of Apollo in Oklahoma Boro) and down River Road but this week the road is closed off. Mom had to go through the town of Vandergrift to the fruit stand on River Road then back track to the grocery store so it took her a bit longer. Traffic was heavier too because of the detour so mom was happy when she got back home and so was I!! “Life is not always a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes playing a poor hand well.“ Left a vote for you my friend~~ Gus (RIP Chi chi)

THANK GOODNESS YOU STILL LOVE ME, BECAUSE I HAVE MY DOUBTS ABOUT MOM. SHE LEFT ME TO GET HER TALONS, I MEAN NAILS, DONE TODAY AFTER CUTTING INTO MY TIME WITH A CALL FROM THE HOSPITAL FOR ALL HER MEDICAL HISTORY. SHE HAD BEEN THERE THREE TIMES BEFORE, YOU WOULD THINK THEY WOULD KNOW BY NOW, BUT I GUESS THIS IS A MORE SERIOUS PROCEDURE BEING A REAL SURGERY AND ALL. AT LEAST I GOT MY SUNBATH BEFORE THEY CALLED.

HOWEVER THEN SHE TOOK OFF TO GET HER TALONS, I MEAN NAILS, DONE AND STOPPED BY THE GYM TO PICK UP SOME DVDs THAT HER TRAINER LEFT FOR HER TO WATCH WHILE SHE IS RECUPERATING. THEY ARE ALL ROMANTIC COMEDIES, WHICH MEANS DAD WON'T WANT TO SEE THEM. THAT MEANS I GET TO BE WITH MOM WHILE SHE WATCHES THEM AS LONG AS I BEHAVE.

DAD WILL BE TAKING MOM TO THE HOSPITAL TOMORROW AND PICKING HER UP ON WEDNESDAY. SHE IS GOING TO TELL HIM NOT TO WAIT THROUGH THE SURGERY THOUGH. IT TAKES THREE HOURS AND THEN ANOTHER HOUR IN RECOVERY. WHAT WOULD HE DO WHILE WAITING? HE CAN COME SEE HER THAT NIGHT MAYBE.

YOUR NEW TV MAY ACTUALLY COST LESS THAN THE ONE DID 10 YEARS AGO. THE LARGE FLAT SCREENS HAVE COME WAY DOWN IN PRICE SINCE THEN. YOUR MOM SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A NICE ONE FOR A DECENT PRICE. WILL YOU GET TO WATCH IT?

  Hello SweetPepper~
I hope you are having a great day. It's very nice here. Cooled off and we still have sunshine!
I am taking over the 10K Hall of Frame page for a little while. We emailed Maxie's mom since we had not heard from them in a long time. As far as I know they are all okay but just really busy and not able to get on the BC right now. I just used Little Angel's shower page since we are done with that for now.
Not much going on today. I've been watching the people in the pool and watched them bring back the golf cart that the office people use to take people around the complex. It must have been broken because they brought it back on a tow truck.
Lots of Halloween stuff coming into mom's store. Tons and tons of candy. They say that Snickers fun size bars are the most popular kind of candy mom's store sells. Dad likes them but not mom. She likes the 3rd most popular which is Reese's peanut butter cups! In between that is the tootsie roll candies. They sure do sell a whole bunch of candy this time of the year! They put it out early so that everyone will buy some, eat it and have to come back for more!hehehehehehe
I hope the day is just perfect! Stomping out a vote and sending hugs your way!
Love ya ~ Sugar

  Hi SweetPepper
It's Alex.
We get playtime whenever dad is home. He comes into our room and sings to us (Yeah, we could do without that) and plays with us.
Mom's dad helped our dad move the finished bench out to the front porch. It actually looks good. Dad did a nice job. Mom never went to the police station so dad just worked around the house, getting carpets ready to clean and then paid some bills. Later on, their friend, Bob came over and they all went to a movie. they saw X Men. It was good but a bit confusing in places. After the movie they went to dinner at a nice place called Cedar Creek Inn. Mom had a coupon for $40 off.
It's overcast this morning but cooler. When mom and dad left the restaurant the temperature was in the low 70s. and today should be cooler so dad may work outside again. Not sure about mom but they both have an open house meeting at the police station.
Today will be partly cloudy much cooler, with a high of 82 and a low of 67,
Hope your day is fun.
Hugs,
Alex.

Day 19--The Gathering at the River
Yeehaaaaw; Chuey here with a Cattle Drive update. We've been watchin' some would be rustlers whilst the herd was running full out towards the Red River. Trustin' that my wranglers had everything under their control I sat a while and simply watch and listen. The herd slows as it nears the water, as the foamy wet horses breath deeply catchin' a breath after miles of gallopin' all out to keep up with them dawgies.
There's many a peril on the long western trails, from snakes to rustlers, but none is as deadly as the Red River Crossing. Historian Andy Adams described Doan's Crossing:
"Red River, on the northern border of Texas, was a terror to trail drivers. The majestic grandeur of the river, with its red bluff banks, the sediment of its red waters marking the timber along its course, while the driftwood, lodged in trees and high on the banks, indicated what might be expected when she became sportive or angry. The crossing had been in use only a year or two when we forded, yet five graves, one of which was less than ten days made, attested her disregard for human life. It can safely be asserted that at this and lower trail crossings on Red River, the lives of more trail men were lost by drowning than on all other rivers together. Doan was the last town before entering Indian Territory and was the last spot where US inspectors were stationed to inspect herd brands before allowing them to enter Oklahoma.
"The thundering of the herd could be herad clear to Doan and beyond, the dust cloud arriving before the thristin' herd. I figured I'd better get moseyin' along, and keep check on the rustlers later, as the wranglers might be needing me, and the birds to get them back from the water before they drank themselves to death. We creep out real quiet-like and urged our mounts into a gallop and caught up just shy of Doan.
" Boss, what's up with the rustlers?" Sky asked riding fast to catch up
"They ain't movin no where fast, so we left'em settin' and joined back up to bring these dust-bags under control again." Chuey wiped sweat from her forehead with her bandanna.
" Pookie and Snowy have rode up front to cut them back before they hit the water full-out" Cookie yells as he races past on Thunderbolt. " Spot and Chipper are guarding the remuda, to try to keep the horses in check."
The sign for Doan's store whipped pasta s the herd started to pull to a stop atthe river edge, heads down, gulpin' water up like a sponge. " Sugar, Sweetie! Cut them two cows back before they drop dead from over drinkin"" Panther yelled trying to get a red checked bull back into the herd without much success. As the dust began to settle, we could see that the herd had spread out over a mile of river bank in both directions. It would take a lot of skill, energy, and work to gather them back into a herd. Quick horse changing, with Peppino and BonBon saddling and ropin our mounts expertly to keep us movin them Long horned devils back in place.

Time for another pedicure, my talons are growing like weeds! I think I'll get little stars on them this week, what about you?
Not much going on here, Mom saw a movie last night called the 100 Foot Journey, starring Helen Mirren. It was a really good movie, but she and Gin saw it at 6:30, before dinner, and it made them both really hungry. It was all about 2 restaurants across the street from each other! Anyway, after the movie, they went to the Thai restaurant to eat dinner, which was delightful. That was Ginny's birthday gift--mom was teasing her because her birthday was at the beginning of June, so mom said she could finally end the celebration! Today looks like a pool day, so we won't have mom this afternoon, but once she gets home, she's ours and we might even get outside for awhile. I hope you are having a good day with lots of cuddles and good weather. Hugs, Falco

mom and dad are doing ok. they went out to eat last night so there weren't any more disasters in the kitchen.

mom put my harness on me and took m outside today. then she attached my bath sprayer to the hose and gave me a good bath. i enjoyed it very much. i got cold so mom took me into the sun and that warmed me up and my feathers all dried very nicely. then for the rest of the time i was the self appointed bug catcher chasing all the bugs off mom.

THEY DON'T DESERVE ANY PENNY FROM YOUR MOM IN A GIFT. AND IF YOUR UNCLE CAN'T SEE HOW BAD THAT 11 YEAR OLD IS, AND TRY TO GET HIM IN LINE...WELL, I FEEL BAD FOR THE UNCLE. No rain here today either!! Mom is crocheting between blogs again tonight so it’s a slow one!! Today this other toy that plays music and makes sounds when you push the buttons quit working. I didn’t get all upset about it like I do when my jungle talk toy breaks. Of course I cant make it work as easy either so don’t play a whole bunch with it. Mom did change the batteries in it for me and now it talks a lot louder too. Mom says she might have to start getting a job as the walmart greeter just to keep me in batteries LOL. “Life is not always a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes playing a poor hand well.“ Left a vote for you my friend~~ Gus (RIP Chi chi)

WELL, THE GOOD BOY ACT IS OFFICIALLY OVER. DAD IS HOME!! MOM WENT TO VISIT HIM RIGHT AFTER OUR LUNCHM, AND HIS CREATININE WAS DOWN TO 4.3 TODAY. (3-3.5 IS NORMAL, AND HIS WILL ALWAYS BE A LITTLE HIGH.) THE KIDNEY DOC SAID THAT WAS CLOSE ENOUGH, AND ALTHOUGH THEY HAD TO WAIT ALL AFTERNOON (WHILE I WAITED AT HOME ALL UNSUSPECTING) THEY CUT HIM LOOSE ABOUT 4. THEN THEY STOPPED TO PICK UP SCRIPTS AND DROP THEM AT THE PHARMACY. DAD WILL HAVE TO HAVE BLOOD DRAWN WEEKLY FOR A WHILE TO MONITOR THINGS, BUT HE IS HOME AND WILL PROBABLY BE ABLE TO DRIVE MOM TO THE HOSPITAL ON WEDNESDAY.

MOM IS GOING TO GIVE ME EXTRA FRESH FOOD AND PELLETS ON WEDNESDAY BEFORE SHE LEAVES AND ALSO PUT AN EXTRA BOWL OF WATER OUT FOR ME. DAD CAN'T GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO ME FOR ANYTHING WITHOUT GETTING ATTACKED. HOPEFULLY SHE WILL BE HOME ON THURSDAY EARLY ENOUGH I WON'T HAVE TOO TOUGH OF A TIME. AND SHE WILL MAKE SURE TO GET ME OUT FOR A SUNBATH BEFORE SHE LEAVES, JUST LIKE SHE DID TODAY.

REGARDLESS I WILL BE CRYING FOR MY MOM WHEN SHE WALKS IN THE DOOR ON THURSDAY.

  Hi Sweetpepper
This is the last week for the pool to be open its regular hours. Next week all the guards have to go back to school, so the pool won't open until 3:30.
Today when mom went to the center, she had to work the reception desk because of the surgery. She prefers not to get anything near her eyes yet, until at least the second follow up visit to the eye doc this coming Friday. She also folded lots of towels and blankets, and did some of the dishes until her shift was up. It's more fun working with the animals, but every little bit helps up there.
Tonight mom is going to see a movie (100 step journey, maybe?) and have dinner with Aunt Ginny. This is a very late birthday gift for Gin, her birthday is in June. She just couldn't pick a movie til now. Anyway that's mom's plan for the evening, but we'll be in lockdown. I hope you are having a good day today, seeing some beautiful summer weather where you are, and getting scritches and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

  Day 18--Red River's calling
Phew what a long night. Keepin' watch on them Rustlers, and holdin' the herd close is a job, especially when they smell water. These Long-horned varmints can smell water for miles and when they do, it's a job to keep them from stampeding. With the comin' of mornin' we are still hankered down watching them, keepin' the rustlers under close eye.
Leaving the herd under the care of my trusty cow-hands, they're up and movin by first light. We're headin' to Doan today,at the Texas-Oklahoma line and our first difficult river crossing. Corwin Doan settled at the crossing back in 1878 and built his homestead there in 1881. Doan had a large stock of goos to supply the cowboys who annually drove cattle along the Western Trail. The village of "Doan't Crossing" had 14 or more buildings. Doan, his wife Liddie (1850-1905), and their 3 children entertained people from all walks of life - English lords to Indians - in theirs adobe house. In fact it is estimated more then seven million head of cattle and horses made this difficult crossing between 1876 and 1893.
"You all better head back to the herd," Chuey instructed, " Kiddo, Jenny-Lynn, TiPaul and Cori, you stay hankered down here and keep watch."
"Ok Boss" Boo Boo exclaimed sneakin' back all quiet like to where our horses have been ground hitched.( reins left hanging from the bit, used when horses might be needed to make a quick escape). The others rode back to the south of where the rustlers where hidden out to pervent their horses getting wind of them and tippin' them off.
"I'm goin' sneak up closer to get a better look, see if I ain't able to hear what they have up their sleeve." Chuey crouched down low and worked her way silently towards boulders not more then 50 yards from where the rustlers sat drinkin; their coffee and eattin' grub.
Sugar, Polly, Zippy, Moggie and Susan where riding point today, but the herd was itchin to run from the get-go. They kept turnin' the anxious cows back into the herd. The whole mass of cattle began to trot as they caught wind of the river ahead. Cinn-A-Bun, and Chyna rode from the drag to talk to the Point riders.
"We might as well give'em head and let'em run, we are can't keep them in and the out-riders are spending their time cutting strays back in. If we don't they're goin' a break anyways and we'll be chasing them to the Red anyways."
"You're right, tell the others to pull out a ways and give them their head." Sugar told them
Cinn-A-Bun went to the south side and Chyna took up the north and rode by to tell the others to pull a ways off and let'em run. The herd picked up it's pace as the smell of water grew stronger in their nostrils. Suddenly the lead cow took off on the run, with the others moving like a massive dusty wave over the ground. The sound of pounding hooves would be heard clear to Doan and beyond.
We're in for a fix of troubles now I'd say, sures hope they can get the herd back from the water in time.

  Hi SweetPepper
It's Alex.
Mom had a bright idea for all the pico di gillo she made the other day. She took raw shrimp and soaked it in lime juice for about an hour. Then dad mixed it with the pico di gillo and made seviche, whatever that is. I guess it was good cuz mom and dad ate it all. Dad says that the acid in the lime juice cooks the shrimp but we think it sounds gross!
Also, mom's dad came over and helped our dad carry the bench around to the front porch. It looks great in the sun. Dad has a lock and chain that he puts through one of the legs. Working at the police department has taught dad that nothing is safe. Then for the rest of the day mom cleaned the remaining cages while dad cleaned our room.
Today mom may work at the police station while dad stays home and cleans more carpets.
Today will be hot again. Partly cloudy with a high of 92 and a low of 64.
Hope your day was fun.

  Hi Sweetpepper
11 Animals More Likely To Kill You Than Sharks . Sharks are kinda scary. In the water they’re faster than us, can appear from what seems like out of nowhere in an instant, and pack a pretty solid bite. It’s easy to get nervous when you’re in the dark ocean and unsure of who is swimming by with a toothy grin. But sharks aren’t the animals you should be most afraid of. Here are some that are much more likely to cause your demise.if you’re swimming with bull sharks, you’re more likely to die by shark attack at that moment than a cow. But most of us aren’t in the water with sharks as often as we find ourselves next to a cow on a visit to a farm, or at a petting zoo. And we certainly are around bees and ants a whole lot more often than sharks. But if you find yourself swimming in the ocean — or even some rivers — you’re probably nearer to sharks than you realize.f
Mosquitoes:655,000 people killed each year, primarily in Africa, through the little buggers spreading malaria left and right.
Hippos:2,900 people are killed by these mammals annually in Africa. That roly-poly exterior is just to lure you in.
Deer:130 people killed across the US by deer, almost exclusively because they hit them with their cars. That saying “a deer in the headlights” came about for a reason.
Bees:53 people die each year in the US because of an allergic reaction from being stung.
Dogs:30-35 people are killed each year in the US. Fido isn’t always your best friend.
Ants:20-50 people are killed each year in Africa from ants. They may be small but dozens, hundreds, or even thousands stinging you really adds up.
Jellyfish:20-40 people per year die in the Philippines alone, from the anaphylaxis caused by the stings.
Cows:22 people are killed in the US every year from these seemingly docile creatures. They’re fun to pet, but getting kicked in the head… not as fun.
Horses:20 people die each year thanks to our equine friends.
Spiders:6.5 people die in the US every year from spider bites.
Rattlesnakes:5.5 people die from rattlesnake bites each year in the US, which isn’t a whole lot considering how common they are in popular hiking and camping areas.
Sharks:1 person is killed each year in the US and fewer than 6 worldwide are killed by sharks. From 2006 to 2010, there were just three fatalities from shark attacks in the US.

Good idea ... I will tell the vet the next time that it's muscle!!! He really should have noticed that I do look like I have worked out at the spa!
That's very true ... this has been one of the worst years ever for my mom's allergies and asthma.
It was a dark and dreary day in the low 60's. The only good part was when I got a corn on the cob to destroy ... it was yummy!

MOM SAYS IT'S THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUR MOM AND WHAT SHE DOES FOR YOUR G-PA AND G-MA. AND GUESS THAT I WOULD NOT WANT TO GO TO ANY PLACE WHERE A BRAT PULLS A KNIFE ON ANOTHER PERSON. THAT KID IS GONNA HAVE A LOT OF TROUBLE WHEN HE GETS OLDER--AS DOING THIS AT HIS AGE IS BAD. WE ARE BOTH GLAD THAT YOUR MOM DID NOT GO. WONDER WHAT THE SISTER-IN-LAW WILL THINK WHEN THE KID DOES THE SAME TO HER? BET IT WILL HAPPEN, TOO. DUMB KID.

GLAD YOU LIKED THE PURSE PICTURES! MOM WAS SO GLAD TO GET THEM. USUALLY WHEN I SEE THE CAMERA, I STOP WHAT I AM DOING TO CHECK IT OUT. MOM DID A SNEAK ATTACK, USING THAT DARN PHONE.

HOPE YOU HAVE A SUPER REST OF THE NIGHT, AND CYA TOMORROW.

We are so lucky here on BC that Aunt Denise makes different pictures for all the fids depending on what is needed . She does a great job too and just love the picture of me and Hamlet she did for us. This is my first year I am in the races and so glad I signed up since it will probably be our last milonga at the fair which is less then two weeks away already. “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another “what?   MY CARING WIFEBIRD
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS FOR MY MOM AND DAD. YOUR MOM SURE HASN'T HAD ANY EASY TIME OF IT THE PAST FEW YEARS EITHER. MAY THINGS GET BETTER FOR ALL.

MOM GOT ME OUT FOR MY SUNBATH AT 9 AND IT WAS JUST PERFECT. ANY LATER AND IT WOULD HAVE TOO HOT, BECAUSE BY 10 WHEN MOM WAS WALKING INTO THE HOSPITAL IT WAS ALREADY HOT, AND WHEN SHE LEFT AT 1 IT WAS A SCORCHER. SHE WAS LUCKY THOUGH AND FOUND A PARKING SPOT IN THE SHADE ALTHOUGH IT MEANT A LONGER WALK. PLUS THEY FINALLY MOVED DAD OUT OF TELEMETRY AND INTO A GENERAL ROOM ON THE 1ST FLOOR, BUT IT IS AT THE OPPOSITE END OF THE HOSPITAL FROM THE ENTRANCE. MOM GOT HER EXERCISE TODAY! ESPECIALLY SINCE DAD WAS FEELING PRETTY PEPPY, AND THEY WENT FOR A WALK AS SOON AS SHE GOT THERE. THEY WALKED ALL OVER THE HOSPITAL NOT JUST HIS WARD, AND THEN SINCE HE WAS HUNGRY (AWFUL BREAKFAST) THEY WENT DOWN TO THE CAFETERIA AND ORDERED A BURGER AND CURLY FRIES. THE NUTRITIONIST WAS THERE AND SPOTTED DAD'S IV AND GOWN (HARD TO MISS), SO SHE CAME OVER TO CHECK WHAT HE WAS EATING. MOM SAID THE BURGER AND FRIES WERE FOR HER, AND HE WAS JUST HAVING A PEPSI. SO SHE LEFT THEM ALONE, AND THEN DAD SHARED THE FRIES AND HAD A COUPLE OF BITES OF THE BURGER.

THEIR GP CAME BY WHILE MOM WAS THERE, AND HE ASSURED THEM THAT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER DAD WOULD BE RELEASED BY TUESDAY SO MOM COULD PICK HIM UP BEFORE HER SURGERY ON WEDNESDAY. BESIDES HIS CREATININE IS NOW DOWN FROM 6.5 TO 5.6, WHICH IS A GOOD DROP.

NOW I AM SITTING ON MOM'S LEG WHILE SHE BLOGS MY DICTATION. I HAVE BEEN A PERFECTLY BEHAVED GOOD BOY FOR FOUR DAYS NOW, AND MOM IS WONDERING WHERE HER BAD BOY WENT. I WONDER HOW LONG I CAN KEEP THIS UP?

We are having a warmer day but slightly overcast, not a big deal, but more humid as well! Dad said the Bird Club meeting went very well, lots of member participation and tons of beautiful parrots, not all of which were well mannered! As you all know, we love our Sundays, to us they represent peace, worship, and family friendship, we already knew that, but it was Angel Christy who really taught us the meaning of this special day, she knew! Have a great day and give our love to all in your peaceful Sunday home, see ya tomorrow...

Mom can drive without glasses, the surgery corrected her distance vision. She has to carry the lens cards in case she is stopped, though, because her license says she must wear corrective lenses.
Today is one of those weird Pittsburgh weather days. It was raining when mom walked the dogs this morning, but not raining hard. Then it cleared up momentarily, now it's back to cloudy and kind of dark again. The weather guessers are saying a slight chance of thunderstorms, but really? They don't know, we suspect.
If it's nice, mom will head to the pool for awhile, but if it's not, she will catch up on laundry again. She didn't get our cages wiped off the other night, because she was so groggy from the surgery, so maybe she'll get that done today as well. We will get lots of mom time today, either way. Hope your day is filled with sunshine and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

  Hi SweetPepper
It's Alex.
Dad finally finished refinishing the bench for the front porch. He finished by putting about five coats of clear sealer on the wood and also putting some on the metal sides. The bench looks like new, or at least that's what dad says. Dad won't let us see it cuz he's afraid we'll "autograph" it.
While dad was working on the bench mom made homemade pico de gallo. She put all kinds of stuff in it that you don't find in the store bought stuff. Lots of veggies. And we well get some when it's done setting. Then dad helped clean six cages. For dinner dad toasted some onion buns and made chicken sandwiches from the leftover roasted chicken he got at Costco. After all that, we ORDERED dad to take a shower. Boy did he need it.
Today has not been planned yet but will be partly cloudy with a high of 94 and a low of 65.
Hope your day was fun.
Hugs,
Alex.

Day 17--Keepin' watch on the Rustlers
WHOA there Cutter, we have to stop and post our daily Cattle Drive update. I must say, driven cattle ain't for the weak or faint of heart. It takes a real Bird to sit that saddle 12-14 hours a day, 6 to 7 days of the week. Queen Zeena sent word, that we are headin' for another rain shower before we make Doan, on the Red River. That ain't good news, ain't good at all. I be tellin' why.
" Kiddo and Finnegan comes barrelin' in from the hill country with word that we goin' be havin' company right soon. Jenny-Lynn and her side-kick Sweetie are keepin' watch from a safe distance, keepin' tabs so to speak on them rustler-type birds. The others have taken cover in the hills surrounding their news camp, watching, waiting least they make the decision to try to run off some of our herd during the night-watch."
"Boss, what we goin' do bout them rustlers?" TiPaul asks pushing his hat back on his head.
"Don't rightly know. They ain't done anything yet so we best be watching them, and tendin' to our own business along the trail." Chuey says before slapping Cutter on the flanks to get him off in a quick run.
"Cori, Boo Boo and Peppino, come along with me. We're gonna go take us a better look at these rustlers." Chuey finishes as she dashes past at a fast trot.
"Silver, you and Raffi, take first watch. Keep a good eye on the back of the herd. We gotta keep 'em tight tonight. No strayin'" Chuey stops for a moment then moves on.
Dixie, Jedi, and Snowflake see Chuey and the others comin' from a distance, and ride out to meet them. They exchange a few words before turning their horses in the detection that Finnegan said he saw the riders bedded down. In camp Sugar, Kacey, Sweetpepper and Celine saddle up their night horses preparing to start their shift as night-hawks. Swinging up into the saddle Sweetpepper takes one last parting look at the warm fire burning n the camp before she and Sugar begin their watch. The four riders head in the direction of the herd, listening all the while for any unusual happens in the far distant hills.
" I sure hope there ain't no troubles tonight" Lizzie says to Kaji and Falco sitting by the fire. " we been lucky so far to have not encountered any troublin' situations."
"we're ready for them, if those rustlers wanta try taken our herd" Angel says out loud,
"We're a bad group to tangle with." Chipper adds "Cydney, why don't ya come sit for a spell, no sense in wearin' your legs out."
The Scouts, with Chuey and the others ride down-wind of the hidden camp so as not to alert the horses to their presence. They stop at a safe distance and ground-tie their horse, as they creep closer for a better look."
" home, home on the range, where a cow-bird is watchful all day, lest he falls asleep while countin' his sheep, and a rustler runs off with his herd."

  Hi Sweetpepper
thankyou for the compliment on my picture. kudos to aunt denise

Odds are, you’ve never tried to imagine the enormity of a whale’s excrement. Imagine how substantial, and messy, the “flocculent fecal plumes” of these incredibly large mammals can be. scientists are now considering that whale poop can help save our acidifying oceans.

How can a couple of whale turds make an impact? The nutritious, krill-dense waste substance is consumed by vast amounts of plankton, who, in turn, take acidifying carbon out of the ocean waters when they photosynthesize as well as when they die and sink to the ocean floor. Whale poop pretty much fertilizes the photosynthesizers of the ocean, and when the whales die, their massive carcasses also sink to the floor with tons of CO2 trapped within. Some scientists estimate that even the small current whale population could be displacing some 400,000 tons of CO2 every year.

Where whales are still somewhat numerous — like the Southern Ocean — the whale pump, as it’s known, spreads nitrogen and binds up carbon in an environmentally substantial way. However, with the severe decline of whales worldwide due to commercial over-hunting — along with the exponentially worsening acidification of our oceans — the marine ecosystem has suffered a steep tip in its delicate balance. Whales are the guardians of our precious oceans, and their poaching only speeds up the impending acidification. Certainly, whales may not be able to singlehandedly solve the problem of our dying oceans, but these giant mammals have a significant impact on CO2 binding that could potentially retard the process if present in great enough numbers.

To state it blatantly: more whales, more whale poop, more healthy photosynthesizing plankton, less carbon. Let’s protect the whales.

MOM KNOWS YOUR MOM DOES SO MUCH MORE FOR YOUR G-PA AND G-MA, WHICH IS REALLY GREAT. AND THAT WOULD COST BOTH OF THEM IF YOUR MOM WAS NOT AROUND. SO I WOULD SAY IT WORKS OUT GOOD FOR THEM. AND YOUR MOM DOES MORE THAN MOST WOULD DO, SO KUDOS TO HER!

PURSE PIX ARE UP IN THE GALLERY. IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY, YOU CAN SEE THE LIFESAVER IN THE LOWER RIGHT CORNER. DARN, I ALMOST HAD IT OPEN, TOO.

AH, MY FAVORITE DAY OF THE WEEK! SATURDAY! FARMER'S MARKET DAY! AND I MADE SURE MOM DID NOT FORGET ME--I FOLLOWED HER EVERYWHERE. I EVEN SAT ON HER FOOT WHEN SHE WAS IN THE BATHROOM. EVERYTIME SHE WOULD PUT ME ON MY PLAYGYM, I WOULD CLIMB DOWN AND FIND HER. SHE DID THE GROCERY SHOPPING AT THE STORE (WHAT? THEY DON'T ALLOW BIRDS? HOW RUDE!) AND CAME HOME, UNPACKED EVERYTHING, AND THEN WE WENT TO THE MARKET. I WILL TELL YOU--I HAD MORE PEOPLE STOP TODAY AND ADMIRE ME! MOM WAS CHUCKLING AT THAT. I GOT TO SEE PAULA AND FLIRT WITH HER, AND ONE LADY CAME OVER TO CHECK ME OUT, CUZ SHE HAD SEEN ME AND MOM BEFORE, AND SHE JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE COOLEST THING FOR ME TO BE AT THE MARKET. THEN WHEN MOM AND I WERE HEADING BACK TO THE CAR, A LITTLE GIRL CAME RUNNING UP TO US, AND SAID "I FOUND YOU!! I FOUND YOU!!" AND SHE PROCEEDED TO ASK MOM ALL THESE QUESTIONS ABOUT ME. SHE WAS REALLY CUTE, TOO, BUT I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY SHE WAS SO SHORT! MOM EXPLAINED THAT SHE WAS A LITTLE GIRL MAYBE 4 YEARS OLD. SHE WAS SO HAPPY TO GET TO SEE ME, AND THAT MADE MOM SMILE.

IT WAS A GREAT DAY! WE CAME HOME AND MOM DID LAUNDRY, AND WE TOOK A NICE NAP. ALL THAT FRESH AIR MAKES A BIRDIE WANNA SNUGGLE UP ON MOM. AND I SURE DID!

Mom sewed the strips together she had cut off together and made bed pillows out of them. The fleece sure made them nice and soft to When mom came home it had warmed up and we sat outside a good while and I got my sunbath…sure felt good on my feathers too!! “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another “what?   MY COWBIRD DARLING
YES, I DO GET ORNERY AT TIMES, BUT TODAY I HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT SWEETNESS. I GOT MY SUNBATH IN BEFORE MOM WENT TO SEE DAD AT THE HOSPITAL, SO I WAS HAPPY ABOUT THAT. NOT TOO PLEASED WHEN SHE TOOK OFF THOUGH.

SHE AND DAD WATCHED THE MOVIE "BIG JAKE" ON HIS TV IN HIS ROOM (ONE OF DAD'S FAVORITE MOVIES) THEN THEY DID THREE LAPS AROUND THE HOSPITAL FLOOR. THEY ALSO TRIED TO SEE IF THEY COULD FIND A DOOR OR WINDOW THAT WOULD OPEN TO THE OUTSIDE SO DAD COULD GET SOME FRESH AIR. APPARENTLY THE NURSES THOUGHT HE WAS TRYING TO ESCAPE, BECAUSE THEY MADE MOM AND DAD GO BACK TO HIS ROOM. HE DID HAVE HIS JEANS AND BASEBALL CAP ON, BUT THAT WAS JUST SO HE COULD FEEL DRESSED (AND NOT SHOW HIS BUTT). HE WASN'T GOING ANYWHERE IN THAT UGLY GOWN.

AFTER THAT MOM WENT GROCERY SHOPPING, WHICH SHE SAID FELT WEIRD WITHOUT DAD ALONG. SHE WAS ABLE TO FINALLY FIND SUGAR SNAP PEAS FOR ME, SO I GOT TWO AS SOON AS SHE GOT HOME. I AM STOCKED FOR THE WEEK NOW.

THEY HAVE TO LET DAD COME HOME BY TUESDAY, BECAUSE WEDNESDAY IS MOM'S SURGERY SO SHE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO PICK HIM UP. HER FRIEND IS TAKING HER TO THE HOSPITAL, BUT DAD NEEDS TO COME GET HER ON THURSDAY. SO HIS BLOOD BETTER FIX ITSELF QUICK! IT IS ALL DUE TO THE CHEMO WEAKENING HIS KIDNEYS, AND THAT OF COURSE IS FROM THE CANCER. IT REALLY TURNED HIS LIFE AROUND, AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY.

Meanwhile, at home, mom got her nails done today, then went to the pool. We were in lockdown all day long. Now she's home, though, and she's ours for the rest of the day. Her drops are going well, she feels good, and can't wait to get glasses that will work in about 5 weeks.

It's Alex.
They bought fresh veggies and some new crackers that we will try.
Yesterday was way too hot for working but dad did it anyway. He dropped mom off at the nice, air conditioned police station and then came home and put a coat of sealer on the bench and then went out in the front yard and cut off the lower palm leaves so they wouldn't hit people in the face. When he came in he looked like someone hosed him down and stomped him through a knot hole.
Today he's going to put another coat of sealer on the bench. He says he wants to put about a gazillion coats on it. We didn't know that he could count that high.
Today will be even hotter than yesterday. It will be partly cloudy, with a high of 94 and a low of 67,
Hope your day was fun.

Day 16--The Chuck Wagon part two
Well howdy to all you cow-birds out in the wild west on the cattle drive. I hope you all had a good nights rest, cause am supectin' that we are in for some troubles come sunshine tomorrow. The scouts have been trailing some shady characters up in the hills, but somehow they seem to be one step ahead of us. Though I'm pretty certain, that when Jenny-Lynn, Kiddo and the other scouts find 'em they'll be wishin' they'd stayed clear of us.
With our bellies full of some more of Lizzie's greyt cookin' we be set to move the herd on the trail towards the Red River Crossin nearby to Doan. I do think it's important that we all know how important having Lizzie, Kaji and Mikey drivin' the "Dragon Wagon" Chuck-wagon is. So, without any further jawin' from me we'll finish our history lesson.

The Chuck wagon is equipped with the wide array of supplies needed to make the journey. Besides food, the supplies would include Farrier and Blacksmith tools for horseshoeing or making repairs to the wagon and horse tack. Sewing needles for mending clothing or saddles, first aid and alcohol tonics used for medicinal purposes. Bedrolls and rain slickers for the working cow hands along with the crew’s personal items. One side would be equipped with a large wooden water barrel to carry a two day supply for the working crew. The other side often had a tool box, as well a smaller attached wooden box in front called the jockey box. Additionally, the wagon would have a canvas cover called a Bonnet that had been treated in linseed oil to repel rain keeping items in the wagon dry. To allow headroom in the wagon, bows where added raising the canvas and providing securing points.
The chuck wagon would be managed by the cook . He performed all the needs for the camp sites along the cattle drives. He would be second in charge of the outfit to the trail boss. Due to his importance and position, the cook received pay around $45 per month while the wranglers and cow punchers received $25 to 30 dollars each month on a trail drive. The Cook also was expected to act as Barber, Banker, Doctor, Dentist, letter writer and sometimes referee in camp should tensions flair amongst the hired hands. His normal day started hours before others. Getting up around three in the morning he started by grinding roasted coffee.
Today, the Chuck Wagon so historically represents the era of the trail drives and the Cowboys whom worked the cattle that it was Honored as the Texas State Vehicle and continues operations on many ranches nearly 150 years after its invention. It is no surprise to view a chuck wagon and immediately think of those nearly forgotten trails and the cowboys who drove over 10 million head of cattle to market. Trails of majestic beauty where you can nearly hear the wind echo a ringing camp bell and the Cook calling out, “Come and get it. Get it while its hot”.
