 Floop came to live with us only a week ago.(July 4, 2008) I read this ad and followed it up, my instinct telling me to go for it. He was vet checked and healthy so I told his previous owner to bring him on over. He fits in great and gets along with my other fids, especially Marley.

With Opening Day for Birdie BazeBol set for Monday, May 6, the MIGHTY MACAWS have some deskwork duties to take care of, and QUICK! Coach Jake (66865) would like your playing numbers, those 15 choices using digits 1-12, delivered to his page PRONTO. That would be ASAP, Pretty Please!! Yeah, I'm happy t'be plannin' on baseball again too. It's gonna be awesome. Had t'laugh when you told me Marley would be okay if she got some extra skritches to make up for not having a team to play for.
Bummer about there still being so much snow at your place and here it is the middle of April. I don't remember what last year's spring was like but somethin' tells me it wasn't this slow in warmin' up. Maybe it means that summer won't be so dad-blasted hot. I'd take a cool spring if I could get a cooler summer.

Hi Floop
What crazy wet weather. I can`t wait for spring to really arrive and Baseball season.
The rains have finally ended for a while but more are on their way. It`ll give Momma Deb time to try to move the limbs off the lawn from the huge Popular. The gardens sure look nice with all the new growth showing.
With the Milonga tonight I figured we all better watch what we eat, so I put together my delicious fruit cockatiel bowls. It tastes great so try it, you`ll be surprised. I combined fresh small diced red and green grapes, oranges, apples, and pineapple. Then I added to this small squares of mango and diced berries. I had to cheat and use thawed frozen ones. With 2 tablespoons of fruit flavored yogurt and a tiny amount of mixed chopped nuts; walnuts, peanuts etc.
I brought you a bowl to share and try. It`s great for us birds but watch the hoomans they like it too.

How goes it, Man? It's been like an eternity since I've talked with you. Shame on me for sure. How's things with you and the rest of the flock? Got that new place feelin' like home now? This was your first winter there, wasn't it. Was it a really snowy one?
Well, believe it or not, I'm here t'talk BASEBALL! Yup, yup. As the assistant coach for the MIGHTY MACAWS, I'm here on behalf of Coach Jake whose got his beak hangin' over his mom's shoulder helpin' out with Commissioner stuff. We're thinkin' that maybe this year there can be not one but TWO macaw teams, that is if we can get enough to signed up to fill the roster for a second club. So with that idea out there on the table, what say you and Marley and Jasper draw straws or play Rock Paper Scissors or whatever it takes t'come up with which two will be on a team. Somebirdie needs t'be the first draft for the Mighty Macaws, the other for the yet unnamed second team. Sound doable t'you? Sure hope so. It'll be great t'get to play ball with you all again.

Tia back with pt 2
Mom remembered the blog u sent us when we first joined BC. Mom went back to the first page of our blogs. U so kindly shared how u were giving ur mom some nasty bites. I figured u & ur flock, ur sweet mom specifically, knowing first hand what we are going thru.
On the 20th, everything started out normally. I had been up for about 3 hrs & mom was sitting on the couch holding me. I was cuddling against her, giving kisses & saying "love you". I started leaning towards the arm of the couch, I like to climb down behind the couch. After a few attempts with mom keeping turning me away from the couch, it seemed I gave up on my mission. A few minutes later, still happily chattering & talking, with absolutely no change in my body language, I lunged & grabbed mom's thumb. She held her hand down to the floor & had to shake me off, careful not to injure me in the process. When I finally let go, she threw a blanket over me to get me back into my cage. I was laughing & squealing as this was a fun game. I was left in my cage for about 4 hrs to calm down. Mom brought me back out & I was sweet & loving. 1/2 hr after sitting on her hand, I was wiping my beak on her shirt, then viciously clamped down on her shoulder & wouldn't let go. Mom had to offer up her injured hand to get me off her shoulder. I did step up but sliced up 2 more fingers & a chunk out of her upper arm. Once back on the floor, mom grabbed the blanket again. This time I wasn't playing. I was lunging & snapping & making this growling sound mom never has heard me do before. She finally got me into my cage & I kept trying to grab her thru the bars, which I never do. I spent the rest of the day & night covered. The next morning, it was as if nothing ever happened. Mom reached in & got me out & I was shaking with excitement as usual. Nothing has happened since, but mom is keeping a close watchful eye on me. On the occasions I've bit mom before, there had always been changes in my body language but not on the 20. Mom never saw it coming. Mom racked & racked her brain trying to figure out what caused this, she knows it has to be hormonal. Every time mom would hold me, I desperately tried to get behind the couch but she wouldn't let me. She'd put me down at the slightest sign of agitation. Mom moved the couch yesterday. To her shock, she found I have been building a big, beautiful nest. Mom kept some cardboard boxes there with sisters & sweeper attachments. The boxes were gone, only a big pile of pieces of cardboard. I had never shown an interest in building a nest before.
Mom figures that me being hormonal & her preventing me from getting to my nest is what provoked these attacks. After it was all cleaned up, mom brought me over & showed me. Behind the couch is now completely off limits, but I still really, really want to go back there. My poor mom cried for 2 days. Not because of the injuries, but because of unrecognizable change of her sweet, beloved baby girl & it broke her heart. Mom got me outCome visit me, TiaMaria - RIP my precious Angel Chloe.

How are u & ur magnificent flock doing? Since ur flock contains so many macaws, mom & I come to u today seeking advice. I am a second home bird, recently turned 17, & have been with my mom for 16 yrs now. I have recently become very hormonal. On the 20th, I viciously attacked my sweet mom twice & injured her badly. I'll give u info I feel may be pertinent, but please ask me anything u feel might aid us in our dilemma.
I have a very close & loving bond with my mom. I am an only bird, but besides mom & me , there are 2 dogs & 3 cats, none of which ever bother me, they stay clear of my beak. I get tons of mommy & me time & am very affectionate to mom. I'm almost always loose except when mom isn't home or if kids are here & she's not able to keep both eyes on me at all times. I love kids & want to be around them. Mom knows that I would never INTENTIONALLY hurt a child, but things happen...mom realizes that a frightened child waiving their arms around frantically, trying to get a large bird to go away, could accidentally receive a bad bite. I am mom's first bird, but she did years & years of research. She knew since she was 12 that she would someday share her life with a macaw. She entered into our relationship with both eyes wide open.
Back when I was 4 or 5, mom consulted an avian behaviorist. She made 2 visits to our home. I was giving her some nasty bites, broken fingers & stitches on one occasion. Mom hired the behaviorist coz failure was not an option, she wanted to get to the bottom of this coz she would NEVER re-home me, nor ever lock me away in a cage 24/7...she would never do that to me. She knew that whatever was happening, had to do with something she was doing/not doing...which was the case. Mom found out I was not getting enough total darkness each night, which was remedied immediately, & also, the bites were occurring because since I view mom as my mate, I was giving her some nasty, flesh-removing bites to get her away from what I perceived as danger. Everything had been wonderful until the 20th.
I will be back a little later to finish this story, mom is currently needed. I should be back in the next few hours. Thank you my friend!

Hey Floop
Thank you so much for your help in getting me into the Hall of Fame. Giz is right behind me, with 9400 votes today! If you can, please support him as well.
BC is really slow today! Mom had an interesting morning at the center. She was on the squirrel porch again, where there are 4 possums, 3 squirrels, and a kestrel staying right now for the winter. We're not actually sure how long the kestrel will be there, just as long as he needs to be, we think. Then, her second place was in the recovery room, where there are a turtle with a broken shell, a male and female mallard, a brant goose, 3 injured possums, a great horned owl, and a young red tailed hawk. All went well, and mom saved the hawk's cage for last. It's a good thing she did, because the hawk got out and needed to be netted and replaced in her cage. She is apparently there until a few primaries grow in on her wings, so she's in pretty good shape and very feisty. After the center, mom went swimming and increased her laps to 14, which is a little over 1/2 mile. Not bad for an old woman, right?

WINTER CARNIVAL MILONGA!!!

I know all the birdies who live in cold climates have been suffering from winter's cold blasts, so here is your opportunity to turn your back on the bad weather and enjoy winter in comfort and luxury. With the warm snow once again provided by our very own magical Lizzie, we will enjoy all the fun of winter games and none of the chills.
First of all there will be a display of amazing snow sculptures that range from beautiful to comical and will thrill your senses. Then once a nice crowd has arrived, there will be our fantastic parade that is not to be missed. The Rose Parade doesn't hold a feather to our extravaganza.
The next event is one I know you have all been looking forward to: the big snowball fight between the boy and girl birdies. Snow forts have been put up for defense maneuvers, so it should be pretty darned eggciting.
Then the event you all have been waiting for; we will present the awards for the Winter Avatar Contest. There are several birdies who are running beak and beak, so you won't want to miss the final outcome. And when the categories are taken into consideration, why anybirdy could win!!
Of course, while you are enjoying the awards ceremony the buffet prepared by Lizzie will be open and serving. Can't have hungry birds at a milonga! And I do believe I heard something whispered about Homemade Ice Cream! I can't wait to see what flavors there will be.
And last but certainly not least the evening will be capped by the tunes of Sam and the Scruffy Birds Band for your listening and dancing pleasure. If you are not filled with winter cheer by the end of this evening, why you just aren't a bird!

WALKING IN A WINTER WONDERLAND!!
Yes!! It is time for the December Holiday Milonga!!
Date: Saturday December 29th

If you are tired of cold and wet weather, come to our very special winter wonderland. The snow is crystal white, but it is dry and warm!! It makes great snowmen and snow balls, but you will never get your toesies frozed off!
And, of course, we will be announcing the results of our holiday pic contest. I am very pleased to advise all of the contestants that every picture got at least one vote, but there were some that will be awarded 1st, 2nd or 3rd place awards (with some ties as well). Also Taz and I decided to give out an award for most overall votes adding the categories together. So it will be very eggciting to see how your pictures and your BC buddies pictures did.
Lizzie has planned a marvelous holiday feast with lots of tasty goodies from around the world. And the Pie Shoppe will be bringing your favorite desserts and tons of Christmas cookies. Plus the Thirsty Parrots Bar & Grill will be setting up an open bar with everything from hot toddies and mulled cider to jello shots.
Best of all Sam and the Scruffy Birds Band will be there to entertain with your holiday favorites. He is keeping the song list a surprise, but I bet we hear some carols to sing along with. And you know he will be playing plenty of songs to dance to as well. And Chyna will be singing her heart out as usual.
So don't miss it, or you will really regret it. It is the perfect way to close the holiday season of 2012 and to get ready for the coming year.

Angel Dudley here, I wanted to say hi to my friends. Thank you so much for being so sweet to my flockily, I know they miss me. I loved them so much and am so glad I got to spend 16 wonderful days with them. I am so glad I got to pass while laying in warm loving hands, instead of being on the bottom of a cage at a pet store. I still have a part of the Sunshine Flock up here with me, Jacob! He is such a great friend, and keeps telling stories about my flock. I've also met lots of other amazing angels! HEY MOM GOT A CALL FROM PAULA, MOM OF THE QUEBEC FLOCK; FLOOP, MARLEY, TIPAUL... SHE TOLD MOM THEY HAD A LOT OF POWER SURGES AND IT BLEW UP HER COMPUTER MODEM SO THEY DON'T HAVE ANY INTERNET SERVICE. Glad to hear you enjoyed the hatchday party and your day in the castle. I figured you were a shoe in for BOTD. You are a natural in that crown.
Still really hot here today, and I knew it this morning so I refused to get in my carrier for a sunbath. I wouldn't even get close to it, but flew away when Mom held it out for me to climb in. So she sat inside with me instead, since she really didn't want to go out there either. It hit 101 here yesterday, and even though today was low 90s we are really tired of the heat. September is always really warm, but this is ridiculous in my opinion.
Mom was gone most of the day after our morning visit. After zumba she went to a play with her friend. It was Rex Bravo, the Whistling Cowboy, and it was in the style of an old melodrama. Mom and her friend enjoyed booing the villian and cheering the hero, but she has seen better plays there. Fortunately the next good one is not till Spring, so I won't have to suffer her being gone all Sunday afternoon for a while.

We're all glad you loved your 2 day celebration! You look so handsome in a crown too!
It was touching to see so many birds at Sally's memorial service, wasn't it? She was so well loved, not just by her family in Hawaii, but by all of us here on BC as well. What a great turnout.
Well, mom took those 2 baby squirrels back to the center to finish growing up so they can be released. She has a baby gray now. Pics will be posted on Gizmo's page. Thanks for stopping by. Oatmeal Raisin Balls
1 large sweet potato
1/2 cup chopped raisins
1 banana
1 cup shredded carrots
1 cup diced peaches
1-1/2 cup quick cooking oatmeal
In food processor or blender, puree sweet potato, banana, peaches and carrots til smooth.
Add oatmeal and puree til smooth.
Stir in raisins with wooden spoon.
Roll into small balls and store in Ziplocs.
Refrigerate or freeze and defrost as needed.
