Mommy and Daddy had went to the bird store and saw me and my baby brother there. Unfortunatly, we were so cute that we were both sold. Through luck they acquired my brother. I was sold to a gentleman that didnt know about our mealy ways and soon realised that Mealy's are just a little loud. Mommy had already been visiting me everytime they came up to see my brother and I had already won her over, she had fallen in love with me. When the bird store owner told her that my other owner decided not to get me, Mommy could not say no so got both me and my brother..

Hi! My name is Frankie (Mealy Amazon)

I am an Amazon from Mount Laurel, NJ.

Big Boy, yes, I am a big boy :)

8 years old   M

Amazon

I love any kinds of grain, and mommy and daddy are finally getting me to eat fruits and veggies...I love blueberries, but who cant resist one tator tot every now and then.

At the dinner table, on the couch attacking things that mommy tosses to me.

I hate when mommy and daddy eat dinner and do not bring me to the table with them, they always come and get me though.

They give me showers, which I love. They feed me yummy stuff and take me out of my cage all the time. I love when mommy comes up to me and tells me what a good boy I am, I poof up nice for her and give her some excited screams.

I really love to whistle, I say a few words so far, but I am the best at doing strange whistles..

"What are you eating? I want some!".

  Hi!!!!!!!!!
We're back! Mom's Internet connection was down for a few days and she had to call her server a bunch of times and get really irritated but it's all better now! My mom is sad today because her friend's budgie died last night. Mom held his little body in her hands and cried. He always had health problems and mom and her friend worked closely with the breeder and vet but he just couldn't hold on anymore. We miss that sweet little darling. I'm cheering mom up by blowing her kisses and acting like a clown. It's so nice to see all my friends again. What great pictures you have!

  Hey Frankie!
What's up? You are a beautiful bird! Your name reminds me of a detective movie that takes place in the 1920's - catchy. I like it. Your mom lucked out. I don't see many of you guys around at all. I gave you a vote. You are very unique.
Tweet you later. :>

Come visit me, Molly, Peepers & Armanni.

  Mealy Sub-species
Thank you for the information on Gus -- He has changed color mightily since his rescue 5 years ago-he was a dull green and feather condition was okay, but not great, missing his center tail feathers - vet isn't sure if that is damaged feather cuticle or diet. Didn't know how to play, didn't know what a vegetable or fruit was -- unless it was red and on a pizza. He is starting to eat grapes, carrots, sweet peppers, loves stew vegs cooked, baked sweet potatoes, only red delicious apples (good thing we live in Yakima, WA where reds are abundant) but doesn't care for anything green. As his diet has improved I've noticed color changes on him - the blue on the cere is one of them. He also gets a feather on his tail that is yellow and red mixed- like catsup and mustard mixed on a plate. Vet figures that might be diet changes as well. We're hoping the missing tail feather thing improves but he will never fly due to the wing bones being so shattered and healing incorrectly - but he sure flaps! I'm lucky to have the little stinker in my life. Thanks again for the info.

Come visit me, Gus.

  Mealy Differences...
There is not much info out there on Mealys although I have hunted for it. How can you tell the difference between a Costa Rican Mealy and the Amazona Farinosa (which I am sure come from various areas) -- the picture in the center of the BirdTalk magazine this month has a mealy -- and the coloring above the cere is a really bright bluish color. Gus has a little tint of blue above the cere but has the definite rust/maroon color on the top of his head.

Come visit me, Gus.

  Mealy Sub-Species
Just to clarify the difference in my Mealy's...Frankie is an Amazona Farinosa Virenticeps, or Costa Rican Mealy Amazon.

Come visit me, Frankie (Mealy Amazon), Hercules (Mealy Amazon), Hermes (Mealy Amazon) & Athena.
