Parrots International Highlights

Check out the highlights from Parrots International, held in Long Beach, California in June 2013.

Hyacinth macaw, Paris, visited Parrots International with his owners.

The 8th Annual Parrots International Symposium was held June 21 to 22 in Long Beach, California. As the largest parrot conservation symposium in the United States, Parrots Internation brings in scientists and researchers from around the world to discuss the latest in the field or lab.

BirdChannel covered the event with updates on Facebook and by taking photos.

Other highlights included the news that the Congo African grey and the Timneh African grey are now considered separate species. The new species' scientific names are Psittacus erithacus (Congo) and Psittacus timneh (Timneh).

Overall the show had a positive tone, the researchers and scientists optimistic on the lives of wild parrots worldwide.
