Celebrate Green Jays at the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival in Harlingen, Texas.

Birding festivals take place throughout the United States and almost year-round. Consider this list just a sampling of the birdwatching events that can delight and inform you!

November 6-10 in Harlingen, Texas: Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival. Celebrating its 20th year, the festival offers field trips, seminars by local and national experts, social events, family activities and Green Jays ’Nuff said. (Website here.)


November 8-11 in Easton, Maryland: Waterfowl Festival. With leanings toward the hunting crowd, the festival includes duck calling contests as well as photography workshops, retriever demonstrations and children’s art activities. (Website here.)


November 19-24 in Socorro, New Mexico: Festival of the Cranes. Held at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, the festival focuses on photography this year and offers workshops, field trips and bird banding demonstrations. (Website here.)
